Gastric acidity of Various Disease

Abstract
It has been known that the peptic ulcer is not only a lccalizedLdisease of the stcmach or duodenum but also it is a manifestation of systemic disease.
Many of the known disease infleuence the occurence of peptic ulcer or at least is clcsely related. Gastric acidity which is a main factor of peptic ulcer, is studied in the various fcr the in-patients who had gastric juice analysis of Yonsei University Severance Hosipital during the pericd of 15 months from Febrary 1971 to July 1972. The diagnosis of the patients were made by the clinical examination and various laboratory tests.
For 54 duodenal ulcer, 79 stomach ulcer, 89 stomach cancer, 15 stomach ¢¥Loaner with ulcer, 87 gastritis, 41 gastric neurosis, 59 hepato-biliary system disease, 5 pancreatic disease, 16 hematolc¢æic disease and 8 hypertension etc, the gastric acidity was determined and the relation between the gastric acid secretion and others were observed. The acidity was determined by Renfuss¢¥s method.
The results can be summarized as follows.
1. Gastric acidity seems to be decreased as the age of patient and the incidence of anacidity is higher in the old age.
2. In cases of disease of stomach mucosal destruction, the incidence of anacidity and hypoacitity is hegher and average acidity is lower.
3. In cases of :stomach cancer, free acidity is decrease as the age of patients, it is more remarkable in man but total acidity bears no relationship to age and sex.
4. Gastric acidity of peptic ulcer has no relationship to activity of disease.
5. Duration of symptoms in hematologic disease, hepatobiliary system disease and pancreatic disease bear relationship to frequency of hypoacidity or free acidity. They are associated with chronic and atrophic gastritis.
6. The locations of diseased in stomach cancer and ulcer bear no relationship to the anacidity or free acidity.
7. Generally, average acidity in male is more higher than female.
8. Aplastic anemia and megaloblastic anemia bear relationship to the frequency of anacidity or free
acidity but iron deficiency anemia bear no relationship of gastric acidity.
9. In hypertension has no relationship to gastric acidity, but the incidence of hyperacidity in the
old age is rather higher.
10. In cases of psychiatric disease, the gastric acidity is normoacidity or hyperacidity but the incidence of hypoacidity has relationship to young age and duration of symptoms.
